Stephanie is Nationally Board Certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She attended East West College of Natural Medicine where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Professional Health Sciences and a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine. The 5-year Traditional Oriental Medicine graduate program was a total of 3300 hours including 1000 hours of hands-on training. She also completed an additional residency at Health South Rehabilitation Hospital in Sarasota where she was able to treat a wide variety of cases including pain, post-stroke, post-surgery, post-accident, digestive disorders and others. Stephanie had also been a Licensed Massage therapist since 1998, so choosing Chinese Medicine seemed like the natural next step on her path in the field of wholistic healing.
Stephanie’s own personal health history and experiences have prepared her to be more empathetic and compassionate when working with her patients; where each one is treated individually based on their own health history.
Stephanie’s experience and intuitive awareness have provided relief for a wide range of clients. Her clientele has included professional athletes, moms-to-be, retirees, and various health care practitioners. Focused on achieving the wellness goals of each client, she assesses and then applies the appropriate modalities. Restoration to optimal health is a joint effort, and optimal healing occurs when the client and Stephanie work together as a team with the shared vision of improved health and well being.
LAO TZU 6TH CENTURY BC
With origins in China, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has evolved and been practiced over the course of thousands of years. TCM is specifically rooted in the ancient philosophy of Taoism and dates back more than 2,500 years. This philosophy views the human body as a microcosm of the entire universe and uses terms such as Yin, Yang and Qi (Chi). Many traditional systems of medicine exist in East and South Asian countries, such as Japan and Korea. TCM is an underlying influence in the implications of these systems, but each has its own distinctive features and characteristics. Acupuncture is one of the most widely recognized and popular modalities of TCM and has been medically recognized and respected as a safe and effective method of treatment for disease.
The practice of TCM uses herbal medicines and a variety of mind and body practices to treat or prevent health concerns. Traditional Chinese Medicine encompasses many different practices, including acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, cupping, Gua Sha, Tui Na (therapeutic massage), electrostimulation, moxibustion, dietary therapy, and Tai Chi & Qi Gong (specific movements or postures, coordinated breathing, and mental focus). These therapeutic modalities can be used by health conscious individuals as a complementary health approach for treating and preventing health issues. Stephanie VanOver focuses on promoting the body's natural self-healing process and balancing the flow of energy through the application of these practices.

Please reach me at stephanie.vanover@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Yes. Acupuncturists use sterile, disposable needles and are required to complete comprehensive training for licensure. Acupuncture has thousands of years of clinical practice and research to show its outstanding safety record.
Acupuncture needles are very thin and hair-fine. Most people do not find the insertion of such hair-fine needles to be painful. This is why acupuncture feels nothing like getting a shot or having blood drawn.
This depends on your condition, how long you’ve had it, and how quickly your body responds to the treatment. It is generally recommended that a course of 4-10 treatments on a weekly - biweekly basis will achieve the best outcome. Acute conditions could resolve relatively quickly while chronic cases may require more time. Factors that influence the length of time to heal include physical condition, stress levels and actual rest time.
It is suggested that you eat a light meal or snack 1-2 hours before your treatment to avoid dizziness. In the hours following your acupuncture session, lighter fare is suggested so that you body may continue to enjoy the benefits without having to divert energy towards digestion.
Please wear loose comfortable clothing or bring shorts and a loose t-shirt.
This is very important to avoid any herb/drug or herb/herb interactions in the event that herbal medicines or supplements are recommended. Some medications may increase the possibility of bruising such as blood thinners. Muscle relaxants/pain meds can lead to altered perception of touch which would interfere with accurate feedback during the treatment
Yes! A parent is required to be present in the room while a minor (under 18) is being treated.
Many insurance providers cover acupuncture services; however, Stephanie does not file insurance claims. I will provide a detailed invoice following your treatment that you can submit to your insurer; and they will reimburse you directly based on your policy. If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) account you can use that to pay for treatments.
In the event that you are running late, please call or text Stephanie directly. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, your session may need to be shortened or rescheduled. A 48 hour notice is required for cancellations and rescheduled appointment times, to avoid a $75 fee. No show appointments will result in a fee equal to the cost of the service missed. If the no show appointment was a gift certificate, the certificate will be considered redeemed.
